ATTENTION: AMB transponders (red) are mandatory effective July 13, 2018 in the following classes: Super Lates, Semi Lates and Street Stocks.
Transponders are recommended in the FWDs and Pure Stocks because there is a limited supply of them to rent at the track. Transponders will be rented first to the mandatory classes but since there is a limited number – its first come first serve.
Any driver without a transponder in the mandatory classes will be starting last and we will do our best to score you.
THE UNITS MUST BE USED DURING HOT LAPS FOR TESTING

Greg Oakes Picks Up A Thunder Mountain Victory As Martin, Fields, Dillinger, Anderson Follow
6/29/18
By: Zach Garman
Knox Dale- After a hot summer day, drivers and fans were ready for another night of racing at Thunder Mountain Speedway. The flag stand also seen a new subsitute as Bob Connor flagged for the evening. The first feature on hand was the Windstream Semi-Late Models. Nick Erskine and Tommy Kronenwetter made up the front row to bring the semi lates green for twenty laps. Kronenwetter would jump out to the early lead as Erskine kept him close to try to make a pass for the lead. A few laps in, Kronenwetter still looked strong out front but a caution for a spun Todd English would bunch the field up for the first time in the feature. On the restart, Doug Surra would pass Erskine to move into the second place position as Joe Martin reeled in the top two cars and passed Surra for second. Martin and Kronenwetter battled door to door for awhile before another caution for a spun Erskine would bunch the field up again. On this restart, Martin goes high in turn one to pass Kronenwetter for the lead. Luke Barnett, Gabe Shaffer, and Doug Surra all battled for third as Ryan Caldwell gets in the mix to take over the fourth position from Luke Barnett. After Caldwell took over the position, he would go pit side as Surra and Kronenwetter battled it out for the second position. After a number of cautions at the end, Joe Martin would pull away to pick up the semi late model feature win. Martin was followed by Tommy Kronenwetter, Doug Surra, Nick Fulmer, Kevin Dickson, Dalton Gustafson, Luke Barnett, Todd English, Joe Malobicky Jr, Mike Blazer, Jarid Ivory, Jim Challingsworth, Scott Carbaugh, Nick Erskine, Ryan Caldwell, Gabe Shaffer, BJ Hudson, Nate Snyder, Casey Wolfe, and Vern Ward. Heat winners were Joe Martin, Doug Surra, and Tommy Kronenwetter.
The second feature for the evening was the big pay, $1,000 to win Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinders 25 lap feature. Josh Frantz and Chris Anderson made up the front row to bring the four cylinders to the green. On the start, Anderson would take the lead as Frantz moved to second and John Champisano moved to third. DJ Clark, Eric Luzier, and Andy Proper battled with Champisano to take over the third place position, but Champisano would come out strong to defend third. A few laps in, Clark would get sideways on the front stretch and hit the wall hard as the 71G collected into Clark. The good news was, both drivers were okay. On the second restart, Anderson would get out front again as Frantz battled back to try and get the lead. Andy Proper moved into fourth as Frantz passed Anderson for the lead but another caution would move him back behind Anderson. With ten laps to go, it is all Chris Anderson out front before Frantz would hit the turn one wall to bring out another yellow flag. Andy Proper would move into the second place position as Chris Anderson went on to collect a $1,000 pay day. Anderson was followed by Andy Proper, Kolton Wagner, Derek Iser, Cody Young, John Champisano, Rick Feely, Josh Frantz, Chad Greeley, Jim Boyer, Jeff Huber, Randy Holliday, Greg Kiehl, Joe Anthony, 14D, JR Shaner, Wayne Truitt, Darrin Thompson, DJ Clark, 71G, Richard Nelson, and Clay Garing. Up next on the card was the Chad Lilley Septic Services Street Stocks. Alan Dillinger and Ray Hickok Jr made up the front row for the street stock feature. On the green, Dillinger would take the lead as Andrew Gordon moved into the second place position. Dillinger’s team mate,Tim Bish, battled with Andrew Gordon to take over the second place position. A few laps later, Gary Luzier and Joe Stajnrajh duked it out for fourth as Hickok passed Bish for third. Dillinger was followed by Tim Bish, Andrew Gordon, Gary Luzier, Ray Hickok Jr, Bill Phillips Jr, Joe Stajnrajh, Dennis Asel, Ted Mascho, and Ray Reynolds. Heat winners were Andrew Gordon and Tim Bish.
Fourth for the night was the Legend Powersports Late Models. Charlie Powell and Joe Petyak made up the front row to go green for twenty five laps. Powell would take the lead on the green as Petyak moved into second and Bob Dorman moved into third. Jon Lee was right behind Dorman to battle for third as Levi Sikora and Greg Oakes battled for fifth. After a couple laps, a yellow flag came out for a spun Paul Kot in turn two. On the restart, Powell took the lead as Dorman shot to second. Greg Oakes moved into third as Matt Lux battled Doug Eck. Sikora, Kyle Knapp, and Gale Huey all duked it out for seventh as the top three battled for the lead. Dorman, Powell, and Oakes went door to door for the lead but Oakes would settle in second before he went door to door again with Powell for the lead. Oakes took over the lead as Matt Lux moved into fourth for the last three laps. All Race Teams need to be aware of the rules for Transponders. Please make sure you are in compliance at the track. Thanks.

RACE SCORING/TRANSPONDER

1. All race cars participating in racing events at Thunder Mountain Speedway must use a transponder in order to participate. Drivers/owner is ultimately responsible to have the transponder mounted in correct location in your division and in working order to compete. All scoring will be done at the start/finish line. Results and decisions will be made by (MYLaps/AMB) Transponder System (red) and or scorers and/or track officials Thunder Mountain Speedway will not use individual’s videos, pictures, etc. to make rulings. Failure to have a working transponder may subject you to be sent to the rear of your event to start

2. Transponders may also be rented at the track fuel trailer. Rented transponders must be returned the night they are rented. If a rented transponder is not returned to Thunder Mountain Speedway the driver/owner payout will not be released and points for an event may be withheld until the transponder is returned in working order to Thunder Mountain Speedway.

5/13/18 –

We had some problems this past Friday with pets being in the Grandstands and Pits. As of 5/13/18 there will be NO Pets allowed at the race track now except for service animals specifically trained to aid a person with a disability.

The pits were overflowing for the Second Annual Eric Witherite Memorial for the ULMS Late Models paying $3,000 to win. Fans were treated to what many are calling “The best race in track history.”

38 Legends Power Sports Late Models battled to make the 24-car field for the Zimmer’s Service Center ULMS main event. August 11, 2017 RACE RESULTS

Another Friday and wide spread rain was being reported across Pennsylvania. Once again, Thunder Mountain Speedway somehow, against all odds, was able to squeeze in a racing program. Rain began to fall just as the drivers meeting was coming to an end. The track crew continued to work on the racing surface as the drivers pulled their cars inside the grandstand fence for Fan Appreciation Night.  By the time the pre-race festivities ended the track was ready for racing and what a night of racing it turned out to be. The track was smooth, tacky, and very fast.

21 Legends Power Sports Late Models took to the track for their feature event with Mike Blose and Gale Huey making up the front row.  At start of the race Blose put the #5 on the cushion in turn one and took off like a rocket. The racing behind Blose was action packed with close battles around the speedway.  Blose continued to ride the cushion and was able to hold off heavy pressure and several serious challenges for the lead on restarts to take the win.  Mike Wonderling was the hard charger of the night coming from 15th on the starting grid to finish 4th.

Brent Johnson was leading with Gary Luzier running in second in the early stages of the Chad Lilley Septic Street Stock feature. On lap 9 Johnson got together with a car he was trying to lap and brought out the caution.  The best action of night came on the restart with Luzier and Andrew Gordon battling hard just inches apart for several laps until Gordon experienced mechanic issues late in the race.  Fuzzy Fields and Brent Johnson challenged Luzier in the final laps but “The Luthersburg Laser” would not be denied his first TMS win to the delight of the crowd.

Heat 1: Johnson, Luzier, Rosman, Gordon, Hurrellbrink, Bloom, Fields, Eck, Rhed

July 21, 2017 RACE RESULTS

Thunder Mountain Speedway was finally blessed with a Friday without rain the night before and/or on race day and no rain in the forecast for the evening.  Track crews were able to take advantage of the break in the weather to give drivers a fast and smooth racing surface which provided fans with some of the best racing action of the 2017 season.

The first event to take to the track was the make-up feature from June 9th for the Randy Sterling Trucking RaceSaver Sprints.  Tyler Denocheck and Jonathon Jones were on the front row when the green flag fell.  Will Fleming got by the pair on the first lap and went on to an impressive win.

The first six laps of the Carns Equipment Semi-Late feature saw Doug Surra out front with Nick Erskine running second.  By lap 8 Nate Smith had used the cushion to work his way around both Erskine & Lee.

On lap 12 Smith took the lead and never looked back in route to his fifth win in as many races.  Lee and Surra battled closely for the last eight laps with Lee riding home second.

A roar erupted from the grandstands as New Bethlehem’s Brian Wright took his first career win in the Randy Sterling Trucking RaceSaver Sprint A-Main.  Smith shot into the lead at the drop of the green flag and road the cushion to hold off Tyler Denochick.  Fans saw a very enthusiastic celebration by the 28 team in the Carns Equipment Victory Lane.

Curtis Teats looked to be the man to beat for the first twenty laps of the Legends Power Sports Late Model Feature.  Teats had his new car riding the cushion and seemed to be headed for a win with Chris Farrell running second.  On a late race restart, Chris Farrell made a bold move up on the cushion to make the pass around Teats to take the win.  Martin, Gunn, and Powell had a wild battle for second through fifth in the closing laps with Doug Eck and Bob Dorman racing side-by-side for sixth place.

Mid-Season Championships

July 14, 2017

Another Friday and again heavy thunder storms hit the region.  And once again, the Thunder Mountain crew worked hard to get the track ready.   All the hard work payed off as they gave the drivers a smooth racing surface that stayed that way throughout the evening.  Fans were treated to thrilling racing as drivers battled for double points in all divisions.

From the drop of the green flag in the Legends Power Sports Late Model feature, Doug Eck and Charles Powell Jr waged an intense battle for the top spot with Bob Dorman running a close third.  Michael Lake and Rick Singleton started deep in the field and put on a thrilling show as they charged into the top five.  Powell made one final move by going low coming out of turn four on the final lap but Eck crossed the finish line just half a car length ahead of Powell.

Sweeney RUSH Sportsman Modified Tour Night

June 9, 2017

Thunder Mountain Speedway track staff, officials, and race teams tried hard to hurry to get the racing program in under threatening skies, but unfortunately, once again rain shortened another exciting night of racing. This time it came with only 2 of 6 feature events completed. Kyle Martell won the rain shortened and wild ending modified feature and Doug Surra found victory lane again in the Semi-Lates.

At the start of the Sweeny RUSH Sportsman Modified Tour main event, Rocky Martell shot out to an early lead and kept the point through a flurry of cautions until late in the race when Rocky Kugel made the pass for the lead on lap 18 with a hard charging Brian Shaffer using the high line to work into second place. A torrid battle for the top spot between Shaffer and Kugle ended with the two getting together on the front stretch sending Kugel crashing hard into the wall on turn one and rolling over, finally coming to a rest on pit road. The field was lined up and ready to go green when it started to rain. Rush officials decided to checker the event with Rocky Martell picking up the surprise win.

He looked to be headed toward a dominating victory until he got tangled with a lap car and spun on lap 15. Shortly after the restart, it was Charles Powell Jr, Denny Fenton, and Doug Eck making up the top three with Lewis back up to fourth by lap 19.  Lewis got a huge run down the back stretch and tried a bold move going into turn three high and very hard.   The 73 jumped the cushion and rolled several times coming to rest in turn four.   Defending track champion Powell held off the challenges of former track champion Fenton to take his first TMS win of the year.

The pits were filled to capacity for Truitt Farms/Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series night.  Heat races, Late Model, and Sprint features were completed before rain ended the evening three laps into the Street Stock main event.

Doug Eck and Devin Lewis brought the Legends Power Sports Late Model feature to the green flag with Doug Eck leading the field into turn one and holding off all challengers the rest of the way to take his second win in as many weeks. The battle for second place between Mike Blose and Devin Lewis looked more like a sprint car race than dirt late models with Lewis diving in low and hard to pull slide jobs through the turns to make the pass and then Blose cutting low, with the classic crossing over move, to take back the position.  Blose and Lewis traded the position back and forth, sometimes several times per lap, until Blose slowed for mechanical issues on lap 15.  Lewis seemed to have used up his tires during the torrid fight with Blose as Charles Powell, Jr. got by him on the restart and Lewis faded fifth.  The last five laps saw a late race charge from Kenny Schaffer to challenge Powell for second and Joe Martin, driving Gale Huey’s 11H, recovered from tailing the field after an early flat tire to finish fourth.

The 2017 season opener at TMS, under new promoters R&M Motorsports, found the grandstands full with fans excited to see the Zimmer’s Service Center ULMS Late Models with the Chad Lilley Septic Street Stocks and the Bubba’s Racing Supply Front Wheel Drives 4 Cylinders also on the card.   Fans were treated to a fast and tacky racing surface that provided one of the best nights of racing action in speedway history with many of the top names in dirt late model racing “Putting on a Show.” From the start of hot laps it was obvious that the improvements made to turn two and the back stretch banking had made the track even faster. With every new set of late models that came on the track a new track record was being set.  During Heat #1 Max Blair turned the fastest lap of the night at 15.118 or over an 89 MPH average.

When the green flag fell on the Legends Power Sports Late Model feature, the 99B of Boom Briggs jumped into the lead with Max Blair getting by both Chub Frank and Rob Blair for the second position. While working lap 3 Rob made a pass on son Max Blair to take back the second spot.  In the middle of the race Colbey Frey looked to be a man on the move as he had gotten around Dave Hess, Jr. and Chub Frank into fourth.  On lap 14 Max returned the favor on Rob and began to pressure Briggs for the lead. Lap 16 saw Chub Frank back in third and great racing action throughout the top ten.  While working lap 19 the caution came out for a multiple car accident at the exit of turn four. As the field was set to take the green to complete the 30 lap event, it started to rain and the race was checkered. Briggs led all 18 laps run.
